Does
Our doe herd includes some crossbred animals and some
purebred animals. These does will be kidding
twice in three years' time and must do so on their own. Breeds represented in the doe herd
include Boer, Kiko, Savanna, Nubian, and
Alpine.
We keep careful records on our females. Each doe
gets a score for mothering ability, FAMACHA score, hoof trimming required,
and pounds of kids weaned. With each kidding we plan to cull out the
bottom 5% of the doe herd and replace with the top 5% from that kid
crop. By using these records we know we are keeping the best and
breeding the best. We are always
happy to answer any questions on our management to those interested in
getting a starter herd.
